Philip A. Villanueva, MD, ABNS, is recognized as an esteemed expert in the field of Neurosurgery, known for his impactful contributions to healthcare and education.

Dr. Villanueva’s academic foundation is as impressive as his professional achievements. He graduated from Biscayne College (now St. Thomas University) with a Bachelor of Science degree, double-majoring in Biology and Chemistry, and minoring in Theology and Philosophy. He continued his medical education at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, earning his Medical Degree. His training included a general surgery internship and a neurosurgery residency at the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Medical Center.

Board-certified in Neurological Surgery and Neurosurgical-Critical Care, Dr. Villanueva specializes in procedures addressing brain injuries and providing critical care in neurosurgery. He also collaborates closely with neurologists as a co-manager of the Neuroscience ICU. Over the past eight years, Dr. Villanueva has been pivotal in his role as the Director of Neuro Trauma and Critical Care at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Furthermore, he serves as a Professor of Clinical Neurosurgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University.

Dr. Villanueva’s influence extends beyond his clinical practice. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and an active member of critical-care subcommittees within this prestigious organization. He contributes as the neurosurgical board member to the Pennsylvania State Trauma Foundation, overseeing the designation and re-certification of trauma centers across the state. Beyond his administrative roles, Dr. Villanueva is a community advocate, launching public service campaigns to raise awareness about brain trauma.
